“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
I need to read this verse every day, at least three times per day! It’s countercultural and counterintuitive to be secure in a salvation that we did not earn. We have been trained to believe that our merit teeters on certain conditions. For example, many women learn that their worthiness comes from their appearance. In other cases, value is secured by wealth, marriage potential, or academic accolades. However, we did nothing to earn salvation or faith. It’s easy to mentally assent to the fact that we don’t work for our salvation but do our choices and attitudes reflect this?
"IT'S COUNTERCULTURAL AND COUNTERINTUITIVE TO BE SECURE IN A SALVATION THAT WE DID NOT EARN."
LORD, thank you for your saving grace. Thank you for making me worthy of your friendship through Christ. Please forgive me for any time that I have doubted your salvation and boasted in my good works. Please help me to be humble and receive the wonderful gift of your salvation!
