Saved by the Word

JAMES 1:21

“Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which can save your souls.”

The reality of hell is terrifying. There is no place for “good people who just don’t believe in a higher power.” Eternal life is all-or-nothing. Thankfully, all we have to do is receive the gift of salvation. When we accept what the Bible says about Jesus and confess our belief in Him, we instantly have a reservation at the Lord’s table. However, there is an aspect of preparing the ground to receive the implanted Word we often forget. The key to this process is humility. God can turn anyone’s heart, but we get to choose what to put in our minds. If we aren’t humbly pursuing the holiness of God, we will fall into distraction, deception, and destruction! The Word of God cannot take root in a heart that is already at full occupancy with filthiness. Holiness and filthiness cannot coexist.

"Two things are forever: the Word of God and the souls of people."

LORD, you are holy. Thank you for cleansing me with your Word. Please forgive me for meditating on impure things. Please help me put aside all kinds of wickedness to receive more of you, Father!
