“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.”
There are seasons in life when we feel an underlying restlessness. It's as if our emotions take over us, and we start to look all around instead of directing our gaze upward to the one who makes us steady again. When peace rules, our responses to life's challenges become Spirit-led instead of emotionally led. One of the most effective remedies for the spiritual funkiness that occurs when we let our thoughts overtake God's voice is gratitude. Peace and thanksgiving go together like butter and toast. The more we give thanks for what we have, the more we realize how much we have to be thankful for. Gratitude opens our eyes to the provision and protection of God over us. We are called to be ruled by the peace which comes from the Lord. We can "do" the right things, but God knows our hearts. Using our emotions as the dictators of our reality will leave us exhausted. Operating under the peace of God equips us to care for ourselves and others in a way that pleases the LORD.
"THANKSGIVING TO GOD, HELPS TO MAKE US AGREEABLE TO ALL MEN."
LORD, thank you for the peace that comes from abiding in you. I thank you for ______. Father, please change my heart to agree with your truth. Please forgive me for following my emotions and not your Holy Spirit. Please help me be grateful in all things and draw on your strength in times of weakness.
