“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved--”
In my Sunday school catechism class last week, we discussed this verse with the children. It is always so sweet to watch the Truth wriggle its way into the hearts of these young ones and plant itself there to blossom into belief. This verse summarizes the whole gospel in one sentence. Because of God’s unfathomable love for us, He took our sin and unrighteousness, and by His grace, imputed to us Christ’s righteousness. Once we were dead, but now we are alive with Christ! This simple truth is the foundation of our faith. When everything turns upside down and we doubt God, we can come back to the fact that God does everything He does because it’s consistent with who He is: perfectly loving, merciful, just and sovereign (and much more but I won’t name them all because the list would never end)! I pray that as my students grow and face hardship, they would remember the source of their salvation and choose to walk in His freedom.
"GOD TOOK OUR SIN AND EXCHANGED IT FOR CHRIST'S RIGHTEOUSNESS."
LORD, you are awesome. I praise you for your righteousness! Thank you for letting me experience your love for me on this side of heaven. Forgive me for not reflecting the life of Christ through my own. Please keep me between your rod and your staff so I don’t stray away from your presence. Also, please be with your little ones. Teach them and guide them in your ways. Show them your love and let them not depart from your glory.
