“Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.”
Proverbs 16: says, "When a man's ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him," and in Romans 8:6, we read, "For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace." Making peace isn't just for Enneagram 9's! People seeking after the heart of God will go out of their way to make peace with others.
This skill comes with a prerequisite: humility! When we value "rightness" more than "righteousness," we get tangled in pride (which the Lord opposes.) Making peace is a vital part of Christianity; God asks us to get right with our brothers/sisters before we can get right with Him.
I experienced this recently through a sequence of irritations directed towards a particular individual. Praise the Lord for His faithfulness to pull me out of my fear of man each time I have to deal with confrontation. (It gets easier every time, I promise!) I wasn't sure if I should even tell the person what they were doing (take the log out of your eye and all that...), but we were going to have a time of prayer, and I knew I wouldn't be a clean vessel for the Lord to minister to others while I had this bitterness building inside of me. Once I released my pain to the Lord, He guided me to speak the truth in love, and the rest of the weekend, I experienced a closeness with the Lord that I would have missed if I let feelings of resentment build. To walk fearlessly and righteously requires total dependence on the Holy Spirit!
"WE OUGHT TO GET RIGHT WITH OTHERS BEFORE WE CAN GET RIGHT WITH GOD."
LORD, thank you for drawing me closer to you. Thank you for showing me mercy so that I can give mercy to others. Please help me to be a peacemaker in every relationship you've given me. Forgive me, Lord, for my pride. Please search me and cleanse me of any bitterness in my heart. Show me who I need to forgive and how I can make peace with them for your sake!
