“Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” - Philippians 4:9
“Do as I say and not as I do” is a phrase many people in authority use to escape the responsibility that they have to lead by example. Paul writes to the Philippians, “Do as I did!”
When we read the high calling to excellence Paul presents to the Philippians, we can feel discouraged. We can say, “God, I know what I’m supposed to do, but I just can’t seem to do it!” Then we would be correct. WE can’t do it. Paul couldn’t do it either! (See Romans 7:14-25)
Apart from the Spirit of God, we can do nothing!
The good news, friends, is that the same Spirit that lived in Paul lives in us! Paul was following in the footsteps of the perfect example and encouraged us to do the same.
The minute we look to Christ as our example, we receive a piece of God, a.k.a., the peace of God.
LORD, thank you for the gift of Your Son, Jesus! Thank you that you put the pressure to perform for my salvation on the cross with Christ. Holy Spirit, have your way in me. I want to know Your voice and obey your commands. Fill my soul to the brim so that there is no room for my flesh to displace You. I receive your peace in my heart today.
