A husband wouldn’t want his wife daydreaming about some other man! Likewise, God wants our thoughts to honor our covenant relationship with Him.
Our minds are never empty; they are always full of something! You are what you think about. We become what we behold. There are so many phrases reminding us that we should be careful what we allow into our minds. (See Proverbs 23:7)
Do the shows we watch or the songs we listen to fall under the criteria of this verse? What about the conversations we have? If a friend is “venting” to you about someone, does it turn your mind towards noble and lovely thoughts about them? There is a song we used to sing in Sunday school that goes,
“O be careful little mind what you think. For the Father up above is looking down in love. So, be careful little mind what you think!”
LORD, thank you for looking down on us in love. Let my thoughts be pleasing to You. Please take away my desire for the things of this world and give me a renewed love for Your Word. Transform me from the inside out as I meditate on Your promises.
