1 CORINTHIANS 13:8
“Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.”
Love is a legacy. In the Old Testament, we see the blessings that God bestows upon the posterity of people who loved Him wholeheartedly. One ancestor's devotion to God preserved generations. Likewise, the Love of Christ, manifested on the cross, preserves us, but it endures forever. Paul refers back to the beginning portion of this chapter to highlight the church's values: good speakers, prophets, and scholars. He repeatedly emphasizes that without love (without Jesus himself), we are nothing. Paul goes on to define love with fifteen different terms. Now, we understand that none of those valuable traits matter because they do not endure. Ultimately, God can give and take away these gifts. The one thing God will never take away is His Love for us. We can press into God's Love when all else fades away.
"THE ONE THING GOD WILL NEVER TAKE AWAY IS HIS LOVE FOR US."
LORD, your love preserves and cleanses me. Please forgive me for displacing your love with temporal gifts. Please help me not to lose sight of your kindness and goodness. Holy Spirit, help me discern when I am lacking love and fill me up!
