“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”
When I was in Bogota, Colombia visiting friends, we all went up to La Calera to see the city's lights below. No matter where you are outside of the city, the glowing lights from each apartment, office, and establishment are magnetizing. That same captivating spark is within each person indwelled by Christ Jesus. When I first read this verse, I remember Jesus saying in John that He is the light of the world! In Genesis 1, God made a greater light (the sun) to govern the day and a lesser light (the moon) to govern the night. Is the lesser light still a light?
While the moon illuminates the night, it is merely a reflection of the sun. As the moon reflects the sun, we are to reflect the Son! If we use our ministry on earth to attract people to ourselves, we keep them in darkness. We are ruling this night until the LORD returns with the glorious day.
"AS THE MOON REFLECTS THE SUN, WE ARE TO REFLECT THE SON!"
LORD, thank you for lighting up my life and rescuing me from darkness. You are the light of this world and the light of my life. Please reveal yourself to those who do not yet know you. Use me to make yourself known and to further your kingdom here on earth. Empty me of sin and darkness so that your holiness would burn brightly in my life.
