Identity

PROVERBS 3:3-4

“Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.”

This verse leads me to think about identity. Our society is crumbling because people have forgotten who they are. The more we try to define and label ourselves, the more we lose sight of the fact that we are all image-bearers of God. Solomon says to hold tightly to steadfast love and faithfulness. (I think it's safe to assume that he is referring to God here.) One of my mentors growing up always reminded me, "You only know who you are when you know whose you are."

In yesterday's verse, we discussed the importance of integrity. Identity and integrity often work hand-in-hand. Integrity is a state of wholeness. When we find our identity in Jesus, He makes us whole and gives His undeserved favor with God and man. If you've ever known someone faithfully walking with God, you might notice how they have an attractive, inviting glow about them. It's because Jesus looks good in them!

"THE DIVINITY RESIDING IN GOD'S PEOPLE IS BEAUTIFUL AND PROVOCATIVE- EVEN TO STRANGERS!"

LORD, thank you for making my body your home. Please fill up every room with your light, so other people are drawn to see who's inside. Forgive me, Lord, for doubting your character because of my circumstances. When I feel restless, unloved, and unworthy, please turn my focus to your mercy and truth.
