“And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.”
We’ve talked extensively about love this month in our daily devotions. The main point boils down to knowing that God has loved us first. One of the ways this truth has impacted my life is how I view myself. I believed for a while that God “loved” me, but I felt unloved, insecure, and unworthy in all of my relationships. I would think things like, “I think my friends love me, but it feels like they don’t like me,” “I’m never anyone’s favorite person,” or “I’m never going to be good enough to deserve true love.” When I receive my identity from the Lord and integrate it into my core beliefs, my relationships change. “We can’t have good horizontal relationships if we don’t have a strong vertical relationship,” says my friend, Becky. It’s true! After years of knowing what it feels like to receive identity from the Lord versus relying on other people, I have learned to speak truth over myself until I believe it.
"WHEN I RECEIVE MY IDENTITY FROM THE LORD, MY RELATIONSHIPS CHANGE FOR THE BETTER."
LORD, thank you for speaking life over me. Please forgive me for believing lies about who I am. Your love is more than sufficient for me. Please help me to put on your love, which binds us together in perfect harmony. Please reveal my insecurities in my relationships with other people to bring them to you for mending.
