Dual Speech Dishonors God

JAMES 3:9-10

“With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.”

There is nothing uglier than someone careless and unkind with their words. Not only do cursing and perverted speech tear others down, but they are also dishonoring God. How dare we sing praises to the Lord on Sunday morning and then speak harshly to His image-bearers at dinner? When our speech teeters between kindness and crassness, we fail to glorify God because we are too busy cursing His creations. Guess what? These curses aren’t just disrespectful when directed at other people; they’re insulting when spoken over oneself! You are an image-bearer of the most high God! Are you prone to complain about your appearance and criticize your character? Talk about yourself in a way that honors your creator.

"GOD SPEAKS LIFE OVER YOU. WHAT DO YOU SPEAK OVER YOURSELF?"

LORD, you are perfect. You didn’t make a single mistake when you created me or anyone else. All creation proclaims the wonderful works of your hands. Please forgive me for complaining about myself and others. Can you forgive every negative word I’ve spoken and help me to have uplifting and pure speech? Holy Spirit, please give me a supernatural love for the image-bearers of Christ. Please help me to think before I speak.
