PROVERBS 11:13
“Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered.”
In typical New Year’s fashion, I drafted some resolutions. At the top of my list this year is to become more trustworthy. Recently, I find myself convicted of a lack of discernment in my speech. Sometimes, it’s not even a negative tone but an excess of words that gets people in trouble. Unfortunately, not all matters are for public knowledge.
The proverb for today is one of my current meditations; its application is practical yet underemphasized. It’s much more prudent to keep a thing covered than to expose it prematurely. When the focus of our speech is self-centered, our comments are empty and lacking intention. When we give our words to the Lord, He fills them with power and purpose. Have we asked Jesus to guard our mouths today? It’s a job only He can do!
"WHEN WE GIVE OUR WORDS TO THE LORD, HE FILLS THEM WITH POWER AND PURPOSE."
LORD,thank you for the gift of words! Thank you for revealing and concealing things in their proper time. Please help me to rely on your Holy Spirit in conversations. Forgive me for trespassing in matters that are not my concern. Please help me become more trustworthy as I practice following your lead, wherever it may take me!
