“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Witnesses are people who have seen an event and can tell others what they saw. You are a witness, and so am I. Some people doubt God while others deny Him to pursue their desires, but we have seen too much to turn back! This is our testimony to the world. The race in this verse always seemed more like an obstacle course to me. In this race, Jesus is still in the lead, but our fellow believers flank us as we all pursue the LORD while fighting against temptation. Even when temptation is great, and our flesh is weak, we can find comfort in knowing that we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses who understand that knowing God is better than anything else this world has to offer. Keep running! Jesus is just ahead, overcoming each obstacle, and all we have to do is keep our eyes on Him.
"KNOWING JESUS IS BETTER THAN ANYTHING ELSE THIS WORLD HAS TO OFFER."
LORD, you are my leader. Thank you for overcoming sin and death so I can walk in your victory. Please forgive me for my unbelief and help me to cling to your promises. Please show me how to encourage your church as we run after you!
