“A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
Have you ever heard someone say that they could be in a crowded room and still feel alone? There is a stark difference between the temporary high of popularity and the permanent promise of agape love. This love surpasses familial love, friendly love, and even romantic love; it is the love of Jesus! When a person sticks closer than a brother, they will protect their friend even if it means sacrificing themself. Solomon's father grieved his best friend Jonathan and declared that Jonathan's love for him was greater than women's love. Jonathan was prepared to face King Saul's wrath for helping his father's rival, David. Christ came to show us this type of love by taking on the wrath of God in our stead. When we are willing to value someone above ourselves, we become beacons to the cross. Have you ever experienced this love? It's powerful and transformative to be seen and fully loved despite our flaws. Praise the Lord for his unfailing kindness towards us!
"PRAISE THE LORD FOR HIS UNFAILING KINDNESS TOWARDS US."
LORD, you are the best friend I could ever have. Thank you for your steadfast lovingkindness. Please forgive me for betraying your Holy Spirit because I want to protect myself. I trust that you always have my best interest at heart and are actively watching out for me.
