“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
After a summer at a Christian camp, I can never just read this verse; I must always sing it! (Same with Joshua 1:9 and a few others thanks to years of attending Vacation Bible School). Yesterday we talked about the unmerited nature of salvation in the verse preceding today's verse. This next verse gives direction to those who have received salvation. First, we get a new self in Christ Jesus. This self can perform good works through obedience to the Holy Spirit. God skillfully crafted us to glorify Himself! Thanks to God's grace, we have the power to do His will. This power manifests itself as good works because they point to the fact that God is good and He is the one doing the work! Second, Paul says that we are God's workmanship; only God can give us an identity and a purpose. All we have to do is receive it!
"THANKS TO GOD'S GRACE, WE HAVE THE POWER TO DO HIS WILL"
LORD, thank you for your good works. Thank you for designing me with a unique purpose. Please forgive me for when I have dishonored you with my speech and my choices. Holy Spirit, please help me to live in obedience to you. Take the veils off of my eyes so I can see you moving in my life. Thank you for making me new. Let there be no trace of the old man in my life.
