Blessed are Those Hungry for Righteousness

Matthew 5:6

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”

What is righteousness? One of the best (and catchiest) explanations I’ve heard is, “Right-with-ness.” When we are right with God, we walk in righteousness. How do we know if we are right with God? In our human relationships, we get hints when we are not right with someone; their presence is grating, and we can’t look them in the eye. Usually, the only way to get past that awkward tension is to talk about what is causing it. Fervently seek to get right with God! Ask Him to reveal the dirt in your heart that prevents you from having a relationship with Him. The Lord never distances Himself from us.

Pursuing Jesus is always worth it; He is the only relationship we will ever have that will fully satisfy our needs. When we eat, we don’t just eat one meal and stay satisfied for the rest of our lives. Instead, we consume food approximately three times a day! Hungering and thirsting for righteousness is a continual day-to-day process. Here is the good news: all God wants from us is us! He will not hide His face from those who seek it. He says, “Knock, and the door will be answered.” Above food and drink, it’s the Lord that satisfies our every need. He will not leave you hungry or thirsty.

"PURSUING JESUS IS ALWAYS WORTH IT; HE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SATISFY OUR EVERY NEED."

LORD, you alone satisfy my soul. Thank you for always pursuing me. Please help me to crave you more than food and water. Reveal my heart towards you, and if anything is separating me from you, please take it away from me!
