“But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.”
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve ever learned is to develop an unoffendable heart. Have you ever met someone who responded to confrontation and discipline with a victim mentality and passive-aggressiveness? When someone attempts to correct that person, they may encounter prideful resistance or denial. It’s not the most pleasurable occurrence when someone points out a flaw or something you could improve upon, but it’s necessary for growth! When our attention is self-centered, we miss out on developments that would draw us closer to the Lord. Harboring envy for someone else’s gifts, abilities, possessions, or character inhibits our ability to discover our unique calling. Looking to others as a standard for joy means missing opportunities to know God through every circumstance.
"THERE'S ONLY ROOM FOR ONE PERSON ON THE THRONE OF YOUR HEART; WHO WILL IT BE?"
LORD, thank you for loving me enough never to let me stay stagnant. Thank you for the privilege of knowing you more every day. Please forgive me for having an offendable heart. Please help me to receive the truth with humility and to put your Word first in my mind. Uncover my spiritual eyes to any envy or selfish ambition within me and give me the grace to surrender it to you immediately! I don’t want anything keeping me away from you, Father.
